5 Facts About Cannabis

Both recreational and medical cannabis are legal in the State of Missouri, and adults 21 and older are now able to purchase, possess, and use cannabis! Even if you are legally able to purchase cannabis, you should still get your medical card in Missouri.

Getting your medical marijuana card in a recreational state has many perks, including:

  • Legal protection

  • Higher possession limits

  • Higher purchase limits

  • Higher cultivation limits

  • Less taxes

  • Lower product costs

…and so much more! Having your medical card in a recreational state can save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars each year! If you think you may benefit from cannabis, there is a good chance you would qualify for your medical card!

In this blog, we will tell you 5 facts about cannabis you may not have heard before.

Marijuana Plants Have Genders

That’s right, cannabis plants are either male or female! Male plants are basically useless, whereas female plants are the cream of the crop. Female plants flower the buds we desire for medical marijuana.

People who grow cannabis must find out which plants are males and remove them. Leaving even one male plant near the female plants can damage all of the female plants.

Indica vs Sativa

If you have heard of cannabis, you have probably heard of indica or sativa dominant strains as well as hybrid strains. However, how accurate are these labels? Some say, after hundreds of years of cross breeding, there are no true indica or sativa strains any more.

People believe that strains these days are hybrid or mixes of both indica and sativa strains. However, it really depends on who you ask. Some people swear by sativa or indica dominant strains!

Cannabis Is Ancient

When most people think about the origins of cannabis, they think of the 60’s or 70’s. However, cannabis goes back for centuries longer than that! Cannabis has been around for at least the last 12,000 years.

Cannabis was first used in ancient China for many things, such as making rope, clothing, food, and so much more. It then grew more popular through trade with other countries. Fast forward to today, where it is legal in 21 states!

The United States Is the Largest Producer of Cannabis

That’s right, America grows a ton of cannabis each year! Here is an ordered list of the countries who produce the most cannabis:

  1. United States

  2. Morocco

  3. Afghanistan

  4. Mexico

  5. Colombia

  6. Paraguay

  7. Jamaica

  8. Canada

  9. Nigeria

  10. India

Marijuana Was Legal in the U.S. Before 1937

Prior to the Pure Food and Drug Act in 1906, it wasn’t mandatory to put a warning label on products with cannabis in them! However, in 1937, the Marijuana Tax Act was passed, and the rest is history.
