The holiday season is upon us, and one thing we have been looking forward to all year here at Missouri Marijuana Card is our favorite holiday recipes!
Many families have traditions, including recipes that they make every year, but what if we told you that you could add cannabis into your traditional recipes to mix things up this year? That’s right–you can add marijuana to virtually any recipe, not just brownies and cookies!
There are a couple of ways to do this, but two of the most popular ones are to use cannabutter or cannabis-infused oil. Both of these are great options; it really just depends on your preference and what you are making.
Cannabis-Infused Oil
Cannabis oil is an amazing way to add some extra relief into your traditional holiday recipes. Making your own is very easy and pretty cost-effective, and it can last a while in the fridge for continued use after the holidays!
As far as which type of oil to use, it really depends on your recipe. Most people recommend using olive oil because it does not have a very strong taste and contains antioxidants and healthy fats.
Avocado oil is also a great option. We recommend staying away from coconut oil unless you think coconut will taste good in your recipe, like if you are baking a dessert, for example.
What you will need:
Anywhere from 4-7 grams of cannabis (more if you want longer-lasting effects)
8 ounces or 1 cup of cooking oil of your choice
Cannabis grinder
Nonstick baking sheet
Parchment paper
A medium pot
A strainer (cheesecloth works best)
An airtight glass container (mason jars work best)
A thermometer (optional)
How to Make Cannabis-Infused Oil
You will need to preheat your oven to 245 degrees fahrenheit. Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
Grind your cannabis into smaller pieces. Make sure they are not small enough to pass through your strainer (we highly recommend using cheesecloth for this reason).
Spread your ground cannabis evenly on the baking sheet and allow it to bake for about 30 to 40 minutes.
Allow your cannabis to cool.
Add the cooking oil and your room temperature cannabis directly to your pot and allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for anywhere from 2 to 3 hours. Make sure the temperature does not exceed 180 degrees. Keep in mind that the longer the mixture simmers, the more potent it will be, and hence the longer the effects will last. However, the more the mixture is heated, the more it will taste like cannabis. You may have to add some extra water during this step.
Lastly, you should strain the mixture into your mason jar. You can strain the mixture twice to ensure you get all of the small pieces of cannabis out of your finished product, if you would like.
Your cannabis-infused oil can last up to 3 months in the fridge! Just try your best to use low heat when you cook with it, and you can add it into any recipe you would like!
Cook With Cannabis Today!
If you would like to try cooking with cannabis, you will need your medical marijuana card! Although marijuana has been legalized in the State of Missouri, recreational dispensaries have not yet opened, so you will need your card to access cannabis until further notice.
There are so many benefits to having your medical marijuana card in a recreational state, including being responsible for less in taxes, saving at dispensaries, and higher possession laws.
If you don’t already have your medical marijuana card, we can help! Our doctors are standing by to take you through a quick and easy evaluation to see if you qualify. During your evaluation, they will be happy to answer all your questions about how cannabis may be able to help with your anxiety or any other medical conditions.
