Missouri: Dispensaries Anticipate Opening Date and New Marijuana Licenses Awarded

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

If you’re a Show-Me State patient who decided to get your Missouri Marijuana Card, you may be asking for someone, anyone, to show you the dispensaries.

Medical marijuana was approved in Missouri back in 2018, yet over 58,000 Missouri marijuana cardholders still do not have access to purchase any product.

Relief for Marijuana Patients Expected Soon

The rollout of medical dispensaries here was first hampered by a surprisingly low number of applications for licenses to cultivate, distribute, and sell medical marijuana in the early days of legal marijuana in Missouri. Fortunately, about 100 facilities are anticipated to begin opening this fall.

Mitch Meyers, an operating partner at BeLeaf Medical, stated that their crops will be available for dispensaries on October 1. BeLeaf Medical holds three cultivation licenses, five dispensary licenses and two manufacturing licenses. Their dispensary facilities will be located in The Grove business district, Ellisville, and St. Peters.

More Infused-Product Licenses Awarded

The slow roll-out of dispensaries should also be helped by expansion in other segments of the industry. The state of Missouri has awarded licenses for five more infused-product manufacturing facilities after mistakenly issuing duplicate licenses.

The department merged the following redundant manufacturing licenses:

  • Verano MO, LLC, 5401 W. 3rd St., St. Louis

  • Teal Labs, LLC, 5555 Salt River Rd., St. Peters

  • Grassroots OpCo MO, LLC, 186 NE Highway 52, Clinton

There are currently 86 medical marijuana-infused manufacturing facilities in Missouri. The five new licensees are:

  • MidAmeriCanna, 2849 Union Blvd., St. Louis

  • Nature’s Med MO, 3615 Tree Court Industrial Blvd., St. Louis

  • ROI Labs of Atherton , 4610 N Main St, Independence

  • Missouri Made Marijuana,, 301 S. Outer Belt Road E., Grain Valley

  • Kings Garden Midwest, 3300 Pleasant Place, Trenton

A third cultivator, Feelz Good Green Products (dba C4), was also recently approved and has begun operations. They will be located in Carrollton and will utilize the Clean Green organic growing method to ensure patients receive the purest and safest cannabis products.

Update

Missouri’s first dispensaries opened in October of 2020, nearly two years after the state’s legalization bill had passed. Now the Show-Me State can boast nearly 100 licensed dispensaries and local journalists say the state’s marijuana business is picking up steam.

  • Missouri’s legalization bill created a number of time-consuming, bureaucratic hurdles, each of them covered in red tape

  • Once would-be cultivators and distributors cleared those hurdles, they had to deal with normal business start-up concerns

  • And those delays necessarily delayed the opening of retail establishments, who were slow to leap those hurdles themselves until they were sure there’d be product to sell

Those slow early days appear to be over now. No longer are dispensaries dealing only in CBD because they can’t find distributors with marijuana to sell. Sauce Magazine recently interviewed Jack Haddox, director of dispensary operations for Swade Cannabis Dispensary, which has three Missouri locations already, and two more expected to open within months.

Sauce notes that Swade offers gummies, beverages, marijuana flowers in a number of strains, pre-rolled joints, and smoking devices. Haddox’s prediction for future products only helps to drive home the fact that the marijuana business is up and running in Missouri: “If you can think of it having THC, we will have it eventually,” Haddox said.

Now that the doors are open and business is good, why not drop by a local dispensary and see what all of the fuss is about? However, you’ll be stuck with window shopping unless you get your Missouri Marijuana Card. It’s easy to qualify in Missouri, and our doctors will help you from start to finish.
