Pruning Your Cannabis Plants
What is Pruning?
Pruning is a horticultural practice involving the selective removal of certain parts of a plant, such as branches, buds, or roots.
Pruning your cannabis plants is rather simple. However, if you don't know exactly what you're doing it can be a somewhat difficult task and result in lower yields from your plants.
The first thing you'll want to do is start cutting off the small nodes at the bottom of the plant. Start taking small sections from the plant at a time. You don't want to take more than about one-third of the plant.
The aim with pruning is to direct the energy that the plant will use to grow to it's best colas. Taking off the excess plant material is important because the excess material takes energy from the plant that could have otherwise been used to produce more yields.
Once you removed excess plant material the plant will receive more light and an increase in airflow. This will ultimately result in better buds and higher yields.
Focus on driving growth to your colas, don't worry about the small branches and nodes at the bottom as they will only hinder the growth of your plant.
Once you've successfully pruned your plants, don't throw away the branches and leaves you've picked off! They can be used to be make teas and edibles!
